How to Choose Work Gloves in Nigeria: Match Quality to Budget and Job Risk

Why two similar-looking gloves can perform very differently

From a distance, many coated work gloves look almost identical. The important differences are usually in the liner density, yarn quality, coating material and thickness, coating coverage, grip texture, cuff elasticity, sizing consistency and finishing around the fingertips and thumb. A lower-priced glove may use a lighter liner and thinner, less even coating. That can be acceptable for short, low-risk handling, but it may wear through quickly under continuous construction or warehouse work.

A better glove is not automatically the most expensive glove. It is the glove whose construction and verified performance are appropriate for the actual hazard, duration of use and required dexterity. Important: Never select safety gloves from appearance alone. Request the applicable standard, performance levels, manufacturer information and test documentation. Do not treat a CE-style mark or printed number as proof until it is verified.

Low purchase price versus cost per use

Suppose an economy glove costs less per pair but lasts only one shift, while a more durable glove costs more and lasts several shifts under the same controlled task. The relevant calculation is:

Cost per use = delivered cost per pair ÷ average number of safe uses

Also include hidden costs: work interruption, replacement frequency, supervisor time, emergency stock, rejected batches and the consequences of using the wrong PPE. A cheap glove can still be the correct commercial choice for a short, low-risk job. It becomes a false economy when it fails too early or is assigned to a hazard it was never designed to resist.
